I Too Sing America
Posted On 11/06/08 @ 04:39 PM by Poetressforever
I Too Sing America

I too sing America
Of beautiful spacious skies
Land my ancestors decry
Voice unheard
Life awry

 I too sing America
Of amber waves of grain
Land to where the slaves came
To spill their blood
And lose their name

I too sing America
Of purple mountain majesty
Land of our captivity
Forced bondage
Beaten productivity

I too sing America
Of justice and liberty
Land of hostility
Legal genocide
Humane invisibility

 I too sing America
Of one nation under God
Land that’s left us scarred
Broken dreams
Happiness barred

 I too sing America
Of taking lawful action
Land where civil rights begun
Gathered momentum
Continues to be spun

I too sing America
Of rising above all
Despite the drudging toil
I remain Rooted
 Deep in America’s soil

YES YES YES!  I see why you are highly recommended!  My sister this piece is all the way LIVE!
Ya heard!  On election night of our FIRST Black President I was so excited as many were.  They were
getting a drink (to toast), I grabbed pen to paper and wrote my immediate thought which was/is,

America the Great

A change has come
A historical year
Miraculous, unbelievable, unconceivable
liberating, royalty bows to slavery
America the great 2008
NOW
let God's freedom reign

( as they said), "They wouldn't give us 40 acres and a mule so we took the White House"
Ya heard!   I'm so glad i visited your profile and update myself on your awesome work.
Enjoying you as my poetic friend.

Walking in Christ as he order's my steps

This was a brilliantly truthful and well written poem, how true it is that we've created by force a nation that refuses even now to accept us equally as Americans. Yet change will come i just think to myself daily...Yes we can and then I smile, because inspite of everything against us as a people I realy believe that. Peace and blessings to you and i enjoyed this piece.

Wow i understand how much pain the black folk have gone through.  Their blood have watered the trees of liberty as they carried the burden of constructing America for the super American. Living in ghettos has been their pay and prize. I understand the tears that flow from your eye lids. I know where you come from and we all share the pain and the guilt. keep hitting the keyboard and keep pouring out that fertile mind
