Here is one of my poems titled "That's Why I Write This Poem" If you read it please give me feedback. This is just a sample of my poetry.
Like the movie "Waiting To Exhale,"
I'm ready to breathe and tell
And ask a few questions as well like...
Why does a flower eventually loose it's smell?
That's why I write this poem
Is it that the air around it is unclean
Or that the atmosphere in which it grows has no serene
Maybe the soil in which it grew is now tainted with things
that are untrue
You know, maybe something has absorbed in it's roots
Went through the stem and then pollutes
The inner soul that made it produce
The smell that was so sweet... so true
That's why I write this poem
Like Maya Angelou's "Caged Bird," I sing
But my song has lost it's touch, it's ring
I mean... What are the words that I used to bring
From my vocal cords to my inner being
Now I'm lost in this world of singing the blues
But like a prophet sent from God I wanna bring good news
Can you tell me how to find the one I lost inside?
Where do I seek?
Better yet, why does she hide?
That's why I write this poem
Can anyone tell me why the hyena laugh?
Is it happy or is it covering up hurt? Is it sad?
You know, like I do when I'm going through somethings
When I can't understand life and what it brings
Why not laugh cause your happy?
Why not swing your hips cause your sassy
Why not love my mother just because she had me
Why not forgive my father and let the past be
I've got to tell my grandparents that I'm sorry
And my children that there's no me and them... it's WE!
That's why I write this poem
And for my God Who sits high and looks low
Please forgive me for the insanity that I've spoke
Cause if it were not for you love and mercy
Like the Titanic, I'd be swallowed by the sea
Can you tell me why so many chances you've given me in
one life
And I appreciate your gift of learning from my strife
Now I know You taught me to whistle why I work
Because when it's all said and done... my reward is
nowhere on this earth
That's why I write this poem
Like a swayed tree I shall bow
To the One Who carried me through my trials
And though these storms have rustled my leaves
When it too passed I was strong and I still believed
And like the branches reaching to the sky
I'm glorifying the Lord... touching the Heavens on high
Reaching for the that blessing that resides
And knowing I'll find the woman that hides
That's why I write this poem!
